I hate Ray Lewis

Coming this week, I have a more thoughtful/eloquent piece about my problems with Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis and the way the media covers Ray Lewis. But for now…

…I hate Ray Lewis and I hated whatever the hell that scene was at the end of today’s AFC Championship game. If you didn’t see it, Lewis knelt in the middle of the field and had his head on the ground and it sounded like he was thanking God or was overcome by the spirit or something. His shirt said “Psalms 91.” And then there’s this quote

“After that game, my speech, that moment, that conversation I had with my team, I remember telling them, ‘God doesn’t make mistakes. He’s never made one mistake. Last year, we ran our course. We came back and faced with adversity. There was no way God was going to bring us back here twice to feel the same feeling. He had a real plan for us the whole year. I congratulate my team. We stuck to the course. It was always, ‘Next man up.’ We’re back and we’re on our way to the Super Bowl.”

Lewis is referring to the fact that the Ravens lost in New England in the AFC Championship last year…

Seriously, though, I don’t think God cared who won today. If you are a professional athlete and you want your faith to be front and center and want to thank God…that’s all fine, but I am pretty positive He did not have a rooting interest today.

Now if Bill Belichick starts wearing those eyeblack strips with Bible verses on them next season, this topic might be worth revisiting…
